Summer Vacation

Published by kcareconnections at 4:59 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

My children are not yet school aged so they are home year round.  But I know that some work from hom moms or dads have children that do go to school.  As a single parent working from home, the days and hours your children are at school provide an ideal time to work.  You can see your kids off to school and be there when they get home, while still accomplishing some work throughout the day.

But what do you do during summer vacation?  The answser to that question probably depends on several factors.  Where do you live?  Do you want to hire any type of childcare?  What age are your children?

If you have children teenage children, you probably do not need to worry as much.  They will be able to entertain themselves during the summer.  Of course, if your children do not drive, they will probably expect you to drive them to see friends and take part in their summer activities and sports.  In this case, you will have to adjust your schedule so that you can help your children with transportation while still having enough time to work each day.

Having younger children creates more problems.  Depending on their age, your children might be entertained for an hour or two at a time.  You can have crafts and activities planned for those long summer days.  Encourage your children to read, play and use their creativity.

Your local community probably has some day camp programs throughout the summer as well as Bible School.  Look for programs in which to enroll your children.

If you have very young children (preschool or early elementary school age) working from home becomes even more challenging.  You might have to consider hiring a babysitter at least part-time.  One option might be to hire a reliable teenager or college student.  They can babysit in your home while you work.  You will be there if a problem would arise and to ensure your children are well cared for at all times.
